The Nottingham New Theatre

A new year, a new building and a new name: let the good times roll!

Posted on: September 26th, 2012 by Charlotte Sanders

After a long summer, the new academic year is finally here and as always the Nottingham New Theatre has lots of exciting plans in the pipeline!

To all of our returning members welcome back, we can’t wait to catch up with you all again soon and to all new members we can’t wait to meet you!

Over the next few days there is lots going on so please don’t miss out! There will be Theatre exec members dotted across campus (in dashing purple t-shirts) always happy to help so if you run into one say hello.

– If you’re a fresher and want to join, come and see us at Freshers’ fair or get onto the SU website (http://www.su.nottingham.ac.uk/getinvolved/service/newtheatre/)

This Week

Thursday 27th September: Proposals Advice Meeting (4pm, D137, Portland)

Aspiring directors make sure you head down to this to discuss your ideas for a season production with our committee members and productions coordinator. They will be able to advise you and give you the best possible chance of winning a season slot.

Friday 28th September: Final Edinburgh Double Bill (4pm, Lakeside Arts Centre)

After huge success at the fringe, now’s your chance to see both our Edinburgh shows back-to-back – right on your doorstep! The performance is at Lakeside Arts Centre, located by the South entrance to University Park Campus and tickets are just £5 for both shows.

Saturday 29th September: Show Proposals (12pm, C11, Portland)
This is for hopeful directors to propose a production for this semester. Each director will be given a few minutes to tell the committee why your production really deserves a slot. If you have any queries about how proposals will work email James at productions@newtheatre.org.uk; he’ll be glad to help.

Next Week:

Wednesday 3rd October: AGM (1pm and 3pm, West Concourse Lounge, Portland)

Very Important! If you are interested in being involved in the theatre in any way whatsoever – make sure you come to one of our two Annual General Meetings. Here you will find out about everything that is going on in the theatre this term, what productions have been programmed, how to get involved and much more.

– Just in case that wasn’t enough to entice you, it will be followed by the first social of the year so make sure you attend!

Renovation in progress

We’ve had a busy few months!

Any of you have been on University Park campus recently will have noticed that our beloved building is undergoing a major renovation at the moment. Work is going well and we will be back in our new and improved home in a few weeks.

– Those of you with an especially keen eye will have also noticed a slight name change; from now on we will be known as The Nottingham New Theatre to help us stand out from the crowd and make sure all of our work gets the recognition it deserves!

There is a fair bit of change afoot but it’s all good, we promise!

It’s not even the start of the season yet and there is a lot to be getting involved in so if you do have any questions don’t hesitate to send an email to secretary@newtheatre.org.uk
